Please reconsider leaving off the bannister rail. Ours is off, and you would be surprised how messy your walls can get…if you are ill, carrying something awkward, very tired, or handicapped for awhile, you tend to put a hand on the wall for support. Or, like us, you get old enough that you feel safer holding onto something. It does look like a job well done, so if you do put up a rail painted the same colour as the wall you’d hardly notice it.
