Hi guys! So in case you missed it — I am over on Remodelaholic showing you how to make this super easy triangle bench. Pop on over and give it a gander, and if you’re feeling ambitious you can build it yourself with the free plans!
Do you sew? Me neither. Not really, anyways. I am an affront to seamstresses everywhere in that I am always cutting corners (pun INTENDED) and looking for the easiest and quickest way to get something stitched. The bench I was just talking about? It needed a cushion. So I am gonna show you guys the EASIEST way to sew a box cushion that the world has ever seen. If you can sew a straight line, you can make this cover. No fancy piping. No out of control concealed zipper nonsense. Just a rachet-ass pillow cover that is gonna look awesome, I promise.
First things first, you need a cushion. I glued two 3″ foam squares from Walmart together in order to get the specs I needed. Remember, it doesn’t have to look pretty: you’re going to cover it up!
Ok, so once you’ve got your cushion, you’re ready to sew your simple envelope-style cover. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here: this tutorial from A Curiously Chic Life gives an excellent guide on how to do this. (Following are my pictures to illustrate how I did it on a rectangular cushion since her tutorial uses a square.) When you’ve finished your cover, come back and we’ll tackle the corners.
How did it go? Super easy, right? So you’ve got your cover, but how do we get those awesome box corners to really take it up a notch? I’ll show you. Put your cover back onto the pillow form, inside out. Then simply pin the corners as shown in the pictures below:
All you have to do next is carefully remove the pillow from the cover, and sew along the line of the pin (remember to back stitch).
Boom. Done. How easy was that? And how awesome does this cushion look on the bench?
I have been super slack with posting on here lately. To be honest I have been feeling very uninspired lately and needed a little DIY respite, if there is such a thing! However, I do have a whole bunch of projects queued that I’m getting ready to share, so stay tuned, and thanks for reading. 🙂
